#QuaranTip Number 1: Balance Work With Movement

You may suddenly find yourself working from home, or even out of a job because of increasing quarantine requirements. If you’re used to working in an office with others, breaking up your day with lunch, working an active job, or commuting every day, you probably find yourself with a lot of time on your hands, and a lot of energy and stress to work out.

With gyms closing and more places putting “shelter in place” policies into effect, having an at-home workout routine is becoming more crucial!

Why is Movement So Important in Quarantine?

When it comes to exercise, there are the obvious benefits of maintaining fitness and a strong body. But if you’re not an athlete, or trying to train for a particular sport, you might be wondering why it’s important for you to stay in shape during this time. Here are four important reasons why you should be incorporating exercise into your day, and stay healthy even during quarantine:

1. Exercise Strengthens Your Immune System

Some studies have shown that exercise has immune-boosting properties. It is more important than ever that we work to keep ourselves healthy during this time. It is important to note, however, that excessive exercise can actually lower the immune system. So don’t overdo it!

2. Healthy Exercise Reduces Stress

Light to moderate exercise is shown to reduce the body’s stress hormones such as cortisol, and increase endorphins in the body. It’s also a great way to distract yourself and engage in an activity you enjoy to take your mind off of work, or stress and worry about the news. Science shows us that you’ll react much better to mental stress when you take time to move your body.

3. Physical Activity Improves Mental Health

In challenging times like these, it is just as important to take care of our mental health as our physical health. Like we discussed above, light to moderate exercise and movement on a daily basis is ideal for balancing out the body’s hormones and keeping stress and anxiety in check. It has also been shown to improve cognitive function, increase serotonin production, and maintain these mood-boosting effects even after you’re done exercising.

4. Exercise Boosts Productivity

When it You might find yourself working from home during this time, and it can be hard to focus when you’re in a new environment with lots of distractions (like children at home, snacks in the fridge, the internet at your fingertips, and a plethora of household chores to be done.) Making sure to break your working time up into manageable chunks and taking short breaks in-between is a great way to increase your productivity!
